I had a panel beater repair a bonnet, the paint on the rest of the car is GM Black (acrylic) I insisted this is what I wanted it sprayed in. I certainly didn't want two pack or clear coat. He agreed with the only exception being he wanted to use a 2 pack high build primer on a fiberglass overlay on the bonnet. We agreed.
I got the bonnet back about two months ago, I left it off the car in the garage and left it to harden whilst I worked on the motor. Yesterday in preparation to put it back on the car I gave it a polish, the pad came up clean. So I tried a fairly aggressive polish and the pad still came up clean, so clearly clear coat has been put on. Which I'm pretty annoyed about as authenticity is important to me and it's not what I paid for.
Now my questions, when acrylic paint is used is it ever followed by clear coat ? Is there anyway to test whether two pack or acrylic paint is on it ?
By clean I mean no color came off onto the buffing pad, and I was using a Menzernas 2nd highest cutting polish - wouldn't have thought wax would be that hard to polish through.
Thanks guys
