Is it true that every anime fan watches Dragonball Z at some point?

I keep hearing my frienRAB tell me that every anime fan eventually sits down and watches most of Dragonball Z at some point in time.

Is this true? Is there anyone here who has never really watched Dragonball or DBZ?

I've never watched it, and I don't want to. It's pretty obvious that's not true, no one can say EVERYONE who's a fan of anime watched DBZ is a generalization that can't be proven.

That's a bold statement. That's like saying “Cowboy Bebop is the greatest anime of all time”, which personally I disagree.
Yes, DBZ is pretty big but that doesn't mean everyone seen it. Me, my very first anime's were Sailor Moon & Speed Racer. Then Pokemon & Digimon, then Dragonball Z came into my life.

It is arguably the most popular anime series that has ever been released outside of Japan, but, no, not everyone who is an anime fan has seen it. In fact, I have encountered plenty of anime fans who have never seen a single minute of the show.

I do think its safe to say that everyone who is an anime fan has at least heard of DBZ, though. In fact, I have yet to encounter anyone who is a fan of animation, in general, who has never actually heard of DBZ, regardless of whether they are an anime fan or not.

I think this is true in regarRAB to the series being a "gateway anime." Many early anime fans from the late 90's were introduced to anime through DBZ.

It's becoming less and less common as younger people who didn't watch DBZ on Toonami enter the anime fanbase. I imagine the existence of Dragon Ball Kai would bring more people into the franchise, though, since people would be more willing to recommend it to others and those who don't want to go through DBZ's infamous slow pace wouldn't try to avoid it as much.

I did! (big astonishment across the hall)

It was around 1998-2001 wen I was seeing it the most, usually it ranged from the airings of the dub on CN to a few raw copies of episodes I had gotten from a close friend, to nth generational copies of the movies in fansubbed form. I think many people like me had been through this anyway.

I actually saw Dragonball first. IIR, it was the episode during the Red Ribbon Army arc where Goku is in that snowy town and meets the android scientist.

I remeraber seeing a few minutes of one or two episodes while I was flipping through the channels and I also think I saw one raw episode with my brother, who actually did like Dragonball Z, but I don't think that I've ever actually seen one whole episode of the series. I don't really have any desire to see it either since I'm just not interested in it. I respect those who like the series, of course, but I really don't see the need to watch myself.

I've obviously heard about it, but I don't think that every anime fan has watched every episode of Dragonball Z. I didn't even know that Dragonball Z was the second series until my brother explained it to me. I'm sure that Dragonball Z was one of the first anime series for a lot of people back in the 90s since it is one of the most well known series around. While Dragonball Z is well known, I agree that saying everyone in the anime fandom has seen at least plenty of the episodes is too much of a generalization.

I watched the whole thing. Even if Dragon Ball Z was my 3rd anime series that I got into. Though I think it was my gateway series since anime was scare for me since the only anime I remeraber watching was Pokemon and Samurai Pizza Cats before Dragon Ball.

I still enjoy the series to this day.

Ive read Dragon ball from begining to end watched Dragon Ball and Dragon ball Z from begining to end.

anyway, while you cant say every anime fan has watched it (though most probably have at least seen some), you can say that any anime fan who does not know who Goku is must be living under a rock or something, you should at least know of it.

I've definitely seen a few episodes, but I can't say I've seen a lot of it or even really liked what I saw. I didn't really get into anime until I was like 20 though so DBZ was kind of out of my demo at that point.

I know most people have heard of it, I don't know if everyone watches it. For me though, it was the Dragonball series along with Sailormoon & Pokemon that got me into anime as a kid in the 1st place, I mean if it weren't for them, lord knows what i'd be watching right now. However you don't have to like DBZ to be an anime fan, but I can't see any reason why someone would dislike it eithear.

Yeah, but the question was whether every anime fan watched MOST of DBZ at some point. As in, the majority of the episodes. And that definitely isn't true.

I only like some anime, and I've seen all of Dragon Ball Z and loved it. It's still one of my favorites to this day. It wasn't my first anime, though. I saw Sailor Moon first, then Pok
