Is it true I can meet people on a cruise and mingle?

I always wondered, if I went on a cruise and I was around the same people on a ship (especially women), is that a good way to mingle with people and meet? Would it be possible to exchange e-mails, myspace, phone numbers, and contact information if I meet a woman on a cruise just to keep in touch with as a penpal? Thats if we get alogn well.

has that happened? If there is someone I really like and I wanted to make a friend who lived out of state incase I am ever visiting there, is that a good and safe way to meet someone especially for a week being on a cruise and seeing them again and trying to hang with them for dinner on a cruise ship and get to know them more?
 
Sure. why not? people meet others traveling all the time and it is also a time when people are more open to it. you are trapped on a boat and if you specifically want to meet a woman, you can go on a singles cruise.
 
My husband went on a singles cruise several years ago, and he met a bunch of people he still keeps in touch with--in fact, one guy is coming to visit us next weekend!
