Is it true? Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz?

I heard that Mercedes and Chrysler merged some years ago to form Daimler-Chrysler AG, Is that true?

I know they're not together anymore, but did they used to be?
 
Yes, the arrangement happened in the late 90's. Then it all came apart about three years ago. If there was one element that killed that marriage, it was the element of arrogance and a very weak spirit of cooperation. Not too different from what I see when dealing with contract manufacturers overseas...
