Is it too late to get my money back from a lawyer?

I was arrested on some charges that held no standing but to be sure I was properly represented I hired an attorney to represent me(heard cahorror cases with the public dfenders). He told me his fee was 7500 dollars and that he would only use what he worked for if the case actually went in front of a judge. Also, it would be held in an escrow account for so long.

Well, I never had to show up for an arraignment even! So I'm assuming that the DA dropped any investigations and charges to due to the phony arrest. Well I've called this guy numerous times from my money and he will not return my phone calls and told me one time that they had three years to file charges (complete bs-bc they were not going to do it) etc etc

He never even showed up to court once for me. I live in southern california and I paid him 7500 in november of 2004.

Can I do anything to get my money back and report his "malpractice"??
