Is it too cold now to put a pup outdoors in a kennel. Pup is 11 weeks old?

I have had the pup indoors, while letting him out during the day for runs etc. I now, would like to put him in a kennel outdoors so as he is not spoiled with being inside.
Sorry, Its a cross breed, lovely little dog, kinda like a labrador pup at the minute. Its only when putting it out for bed at night. The door of the kitchen is open when its out for a run, so if im not out with it, he can still run in and out. It would only be at night that he would be on his own!
Thank you for all comments. The little puppy currently sleeps in the utility in his basket with a blanket. I was not happy with the idea of putting him out, hence asking the question. He is content where he is and loves the attention as he gets a free run until we go to bed.

Well I had ice on the van in the morning last week so I wouldn't a fully grown dog out in this weather! (not my Boxer with his short hair anyway)
At this lime of the year night time temperatures start dropping to near freezing
I think an 11 week old pup would literally freeze to death in freezing conditions even in a good kennel

No, dogs are pack animals and want to be with their pack (you). So sad for this puppy. Why did you get it in the first place? If you are already tired of it and just plan to stick it outside then find it a better home. I hate to see dogs neglected. A dog is not an animal who is solitary, don't put it outside to be by itself.

Hey,

I wouldn't put your pup or any dog for that matter out in a kennel as it can change a dog. I know someone who puts her dogs out in the kennel and they are so sad! They don't have any contact with her from first thing in the morning till last thing at night and it's sad. So when ever they see anyone they jump all over them and are really hyper as they are normally kept in a small kennel by them self. Also what the point of getting a dog if you want to keep it outside? Dogs are mans best friend and love company. I have a Lab and a Lhasa Apso and they live in the house (They have the full run of the house) They sit on the chair during the day and on our lap, (even the Lab. Ha Ha) and sleep on the bed at night. Dogs are like children, we can give them a good life without spoiling them! I am a dog groomer and there is a woman who comes in with her bichon frise and it only drinks bottled water and has it's own golf jacket, this dog is so spoiled and gives us a really hard time. So the best advice I can give you is DON'T put your pup out in a kennel!

Well hope this helps.

Sophie.

I don't agree with shoving dogs outside in kennels UNLESS they are a shaggy working breed and they have each other for companionship. Its unkind and defiantly a no no with an 11 week old puppy. If you want to contain your dog at night then use a crate indoors. (I don't agree with that either, but its better than a kennel outside).

Absolutely, without any question NO!!!

Why on earth would you think keeping him in with you would remotely be spoiling him. I truly can't see the point having a dog if he's going to live outside (quite apart from the fact that absolutely no puppy of 11 weeks should be living outside!), unless he's a working farm dog. And even then 11 weeks to still too young to be put out ...... okay, if he's with the other working dogs, maybe.

Have him in with you where he belongs. And spoil him lol.

11 weeks is probably too young to put it outside at night. It depends though. If it's a working dog then they should basically live outside. And I don't think that you are spoiling him by letting him sleep inside a house. Unless, of course, he sleeps on the couch or on your bed.
My dog sleeps in the laundry room, where there is a basket and a kennel (with blankets inside them) and she's perfectly fine.

If you do want to put it outside and the only issue is the cold, then my advice is: The kennel should be in a sheltered place, preferably under cover (like a patio) and out of the wind. Plently of blankets inside the kennel should keep your dog warm enough. And, if you really, really want him to be warm, consider buying a fleecy dog jacket to put on your puppy when he goes to sleep.

Poor little puppy -- what a lonely life stuck on your own in a kennel.

Does make me wonder sometimes why you would want to own a dog when you plan to leave it in a kennel.

Sorry -- but I don't like to see dogs living out.

However you don't tell us what dog breed it is anyway. That makes a big difference.
