I have a squeal when I turn my car on which sounds like a bad belt so I replaced both the belt the is for the power steering and the other one that powers the alternator and the A/C. Well it still squeals and now I am thinking it is the A/C. The car only has like 58k miles on it. From what I understand the tension pulley is not self adjusting. I also know it is that belt cause I can turn the car on with the other belt on and no squeals. Please help, if you need more info just ask and I will provide.

if it squeals at start up than stops its a belt if it keeps going all the time check the tension-er if its your ac belt try turning on the a.c. that turn it off. if it makes no difference its your compressor if it stops when a.c. is on than its your tension er. also when the belts were off did you try to turn the a.c. pulley by hand? it should free wheel if not its frozen and time for a new compressor.

if the belt tensioner is not self adjusting then you need to manually adjust the belt to the correct tension if I recall correctly the belt when pushed downward should deflect about 1 1/2 inch's no more than that or it is to lose and will squeal try tighten the belts if it still squeals it might be the idler pulley going bad that is a lot cheaper than the compressor.
