probably not i would find another lake or river that sounds kinda scary to me just ask ur self would i swim here if the answer is no then your dog probably shouldnt

If mercury is contained in anything, then no. Mercury is ultimately dangerous to you and your dog, and 'too' should be spelled 'to'.

i think they are just talking about the fish and hat they have high amounts of mercury im pretty sure it just means don't eat the fish

Definitely not! Mercury can cause neurological damage amongst other things. You and your dog may not die necessarily, but I wouldn't want to end up with brain damage, as mercury crosses the blood-brain barrier. Whenever I take my dog swimming, one of the first things she does is drink the water. Methyl mercury is the type of mercury found in lakes and fish, and it is the most toxic form of mercury. You definitely shouldn't go swimming in that lake, especially on a regular basis because mercury can build up on the body, but I wouldn't even take the chance once. Mercury takes a few months to leave the body.

Mercury is a heavy metal, it sinks. The warning about fish containing mercury is about catching and eating them, they didnt get it from the water, but from plants and rooting in the mud, or eating other fish that ate the mercury.
The biggest problem would be when you stir up the mud and then the dog drinks it, after a time your dog would have mercury poisoning. How much time depends on the extent of mercury in the mud. Are you from Michigan where mercury is a naturally occuring polutant? It is all about concentration.
