Yes, it's safe. And no, not any soda will work. It has to be cola because of the acids in it. Diet cola is even better because you won't get the sticky sugar residue. Try Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi would be my suggestion.

NO!! By "soda", that means baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, the stuff that comes in a yellow-orange box by Arm & Hammer......it's a natural alkali, which neutralizes the battery acid......and yes, you can us baking soda safely and effectively.....Eye protection is a MUST in this application......Be careful.........

I've heard that you have to use diet cola for some reason... Perhaps due to not having real sugar?

NO !!!! You are suppose to use BAKING SODA. That will neutralize the leaking battery acid.

Drinking soda is mildly acidic. It will make the problem WORSE. At first any liquid will wash away the corrosion. But the residue (from the drinking soda) will promote MORE corrosion.

Go to the grocery store and get some baking soda (or even baking powder). Better yet, go to the auto parts store and get the right stuff.

Good Luck...
