Is it safe to use 15-50 oil

Yeah, I hear you. I ran synthetic car oil in my old RK and it's still running at 120k miles, but I know it's destined for failure as a result of my irresponsible ways. I keep waiting for my bearings to start skating too, and I know that has to be coming soon.

There's no evidence that the more you pay the better the oil. In fact, with today's synthetic oils on the market, price separates the brands much more noticeably than quality.

Well lets see...5 qts of Mobil 1 15w50 which is a top rated oil for $21.00/4.20qt or 5qts of Amsoil, Redline Lucas etc, or the HD top rated latest and greatest Syn 3 for $50.00/10.00qt++++++. In my book that is about a $30.00 or more of a difference! So if your going to make a statement about saving .02 on a quart your off by a little bit I would say!!! Somewhere around $5.00 to $6.00 a quart!!!!! I maintain two bikes in our household and we put on about 12-15K per year. So that my friend adds up pretty quick. At around 3 changes a year on two bikes your at about $150.00+ buckaroo's. So I guess I am amazed at the people out there that can't figure this out!
Just saying! That's my .02 worth!!!!

I don't mind paying for good stuff but when you can get the same end result for lest than half the price then you know that oil companies are packaging products to specifically target some epople that otherwhise don't care about the amout of money they spend...Even in my 28k car i use basic oil to run it...i don't even blink...Why would it be bifferenty with a bike...it's just a motor...if the product works for it there is enough variety for everybody to have a choice....

Mobil 1 article

I've seen three oil tests by MC mags and the M1 15w50 was an excellent performer in all of them. What makes it a standout is that it costs $22/5-qt. jug at Wal-Mart.[/quote]

This article on the Mobil site is pretty convincing, as they are in the business of selling the V-Twin oil also.

Blaines farm and fleet has it on sale for $5.69 quart, plus a $12.00 rebate if you buy 5. Makes it $3.69 good deal. This is in IL not sure in other states.
