Is it safe to play sports, especially soccer, while wearing contacts?

I just recently broke my glasses playing soccer, so i'm thinking of getting contacts. I figured i'd just wear contacts when i'm playing soccer and doing sports, and the rest of the time, when i'm studying, and watching tv, I'll use glasses.

I just want to know if it's afe to wear contacts and play soccer, and if anyone could gimme a rough price, or any links where i can get more info
 
I just got my contacts about four days ago, and here's what my eye doctor told me:

You can wear contacts while you're playing sports, but make sure you have your contact case with you in case you need to take them out. However, you need to make sure that you take them out before you shower, because you can't wear contacts while in the water.

My contacts are I think about $40-50 for four boxes, but then again I have astigmatism, so my contacts are shaped differently. If you have basically normal eyes and just need magnification correction, (like most people do) they'll probably be $20-30 for about four boxes, depending on where you get them.
