Is it safe to dye my brown hair blonde at home?

I have naturally brown hair but I have been dying it a darker brown for a little over a year now. I haven't dyed my hair for about a month and a half and I would like to dye it blonde now. I was considering using the type of dye meant for dying darker hair lighter colors. Is this safe to do? I would hate for my hair to turn odd colors!
 
you should go to a salon if your dying your hair more that 2 shades different from your natural hair color or else it wont come out the way you want it to
 
no you should get high lights and keep on getting more and more to get to how blonde you want if you bleach it all at once its going to lok weird because your roots will be all brown and people will know your a fake blonde
