Is it safe to buy electronics off of amazon.com?

I'm thinking about buying an ipod nano off of amazon.com since they're having a sale ($140 for an 8gb ipod nano!) but I'm kind of nervous about buying electronics off the internet. I'm not buying it from an actual person like on ebay or something. I'm buying a new ipod from amazon.com. I'm scared to buy anything electronic off the internet in case it's broken or something. Is it safe to buy electronics online?
 
Depends. Amazon has dealers like Ebay now. So, if you do not watch it closely (lowest price) then you'll end up buying from a third party. However, Amazon does provide buyer protection, just read the rules. With electronics, you need to make sure you're buying an item for North America (if that is where you live), so that the product's warranty is valid. A lot of sellers on the net are not authorized sellers and if the item is not intended for N.America, then the factory does not have to honor the warranty. Keep in mind that some manufacturers do not allow their products to be sold on Ebay and that might void the warranty too.
