is it safe to buy a car that have had the transmission fixed?

I am about to buy a 1998 Acura CL. The people that are selling it are going to fix the transmission before I actually get it. So do you think it is safe to buy a car in those conditions? Is there anything I should be aware of? BTW I am paying $2500 for it and this will be my first car
