everything that is on her plate when dining round a friends place? Or is it rude to leave food on your plate and not finish eating? My hubby says that traditionally a woman should always leave food on her plate???? Many thanks in advance. XXX

There's no rules on this in British culture.

In other cultures you leave some food to show that you felt you have been well fed, or eat everything to show you enjoyed the meal.

In American, I hate to see food get thrown in the garbage From ANYONE. For a woman to leave food on her plate is very old school. I don't know why they did it, but they did. These days, I find it rude to not finish what you ordered/put on your own plate.

It's more of an upper class thing than a "people without jobs" or then there's the the "anorexic" class.

What are you fricking kidding me ? Do you have a brain or do you just do everything your hubby and the rest of the world says like your a pet ? If your hungey eat the darn food, don't worry about social traditions. Darn people, get some free thinking going on please. What are you afraid people are gonna think and say ??? "OMG did you see her,she ate all her food" Really ??? Is that what you care about. Really ? Don't EVER be a follower EVER, do your own thing and never second guess it. Its always the right thing to do as long as you did it. If your pondering questions like this I would hate to be in your shoes right now.

If your with "friends" then they wouldnt care whether you ate it all or left it!! It wouldnt be an issue!!

There would be no need to impress "friends" or not be yourself around them!!

If you're hungry then I would eat the food as where I'm from it's thought of as being rude to leave any left over, It's really nice to hear of a lady who values etiquette and I wish you lots of love and happiness for the future :) x

You eat everything and your host thinks they've given you too little, you leave some and your host thinks you don't like it.I say eat what you want but say how delicious it was.

It depends, some people see it as a compliment that you eat everything because it shows that you like what has been made. I spent time in Italy and they love food and love it if you love their food too, the more you eat the better!

If you eat in Vietnam, you need to leave a little to show that you are full or else your plate will keep on being re-filled.

It is not 'traditional' in England, to leave a little on your plate. Leave a little if you are full, eat up if not! If I cooked dinner for friends and all of my girl friends left a little I'd be seriously worried about the state of my cooking!!

Ive Had This said to me as well bab...
Even when ive been starving,i always leave some on the plate, when ive got company...But on the other Hand,if your with friends it should not matter, and after all they have gone to the effort of cooking it for you...
I Suppose some habits take longer to brake..
but to some people, eating it all, makes you look greedy..
so Who knows,do what your comfortable with.....

A century ago it might have been traditional for women to leave food because they didn't use much energy if they were not working and because their corsets prevented them.

However, the world has moved on. Some women are using up more energy in their daily lives than men, and so require plenty of food. This custom died out during the two World Wars due to these factors plus a general shortage of food.

Metabolism is also a factor. Some people digest and 'burn off' food more quickly than others. These people will probably not only finish their meal but ask for seconds, too, and rightly so.

In short, unless your hubby just stepped out of a time warp he's talking big hairy gonads. While we're on the subject of time warps, are you sure you're allowed on the net on your own? Do you need his permission or advice on how to live your life?
