Is it REALLY the media's fault?

I understand if you want to stay in shape, or maybe gain some muscle or flatten your stomach a little, or maintain your size by working out X-times a week, but it seems as though many teenagers -- mostly teenage girls, or at least by my observation -- are OBSESSED with their size. I mean, there are girls who are almost six-feet tall, and are one-hundred pounds and want to lose more weight because they think they're fat. I honestly don't get it. I am a hip-hop dancer, and I do routines with my friends every weekend, and sometimes every day in the summer. I am on the chunky side, and I know I'm not thin, but I just don't get how some teenagers who are SO thin already want to lose more weight. I see a lot of people blame this on the media...is it REALLY the media's fault, though? Or is it something else?

All opinions/comments/thoughts/insights welcome.
Thank you!

I agree. There are people at my school who are very skinny, and think they are fat. They never eat, and alway complain about their thighs being too big. I am not the skinniest person in my school, and I'm fine. I'm not overweight at all, and I think it looks better being a litter fuller then super skinny. I eat healthy, and exercise regularly, and feel great. I think it's the media fault, but also about how much they have about losing weight. I was never that worried about my weight, but often I would go to restaurant, and after I would feel fat. All over are articles and ads talking about how many calories one piece of cake has, or whatever, and I always worried about gaining weight from eating one thing.
