Muscles that tighten and pull on the bones in specific areas of the foot form the arches. This usually happens as a baby, as you start walking because the muscles are being strenthened. For some people, the muscles never tighten, or not tightly enough, and a very low, or lack of arch is formed. When you have arch support, this holds up the arches, but only as long as the support is there. Since you can't use the muscles that form the arches while they're supported (and people rarely go without shoes so they're rarely used), these muscles weaken, and the arch lowers. Custom orthotics work the same as arch supports, meaning the arches just get lower.
I've been doing exercies for a while, and I've been wearing Vibram Five-fingers for perhaps half a year. Therefore, the muscles in the foot should be tightening, and raising the arches, but they don't look any higher, and I can only see the arches if I stand on my toes or flex my foot.
Keep in mind, I'm not saying I'll have the shape of a normal-arched person, but that with strengthening the muscles, they should be just about as high as when I flex them. Are there any other exercies or techniques that I should do?
