Is it realistic to seek a career in astronomy?

I am now 25 years old. I graduated HS with a 3.5 GPA. When I apply myself to school, I do fairly well, especially in math. I screwed up the first couple times I went to school because I did not apply myself, and basically flunked out both times, a total of 4 semesters.
I have struggled for a long time about what I should go to school for and that has been part of my problem with college. After a lot of soul searching, I decided to go for a Ph.D in Astronomy or Astrophysics. I realize this is a lot of hard work and years of schooling, but astronomy and the physics of the universe have been my personal passion since I was very little.
Is it too late to start? Did I screw up my chances with my previous attempts at school?
