Is it possible to use other people's upgrades?

I recently washed my jeans with my iPhone in them :( My girlfriend, on a different family plan, insisted I use her upgrade to buy a new phone. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!
 
Yes, you can do that. Just swap SIM cards after purchase. If she purchases a phone that requires a data plan, after you switch phones and she puts her SIM in her old phone, she can call AT&T and have the data plan cancelled.
