Is it possible to reset a self-adjusting (GM) brake light switch?

The switch adjusts back towards the driver but I am trying to get it to go the other direction--towards the floor. There is a little screw slot in the end of the push button that I suspect does something, but I have not been able to figure out wlhat.

It could depend which model,but most GMs you adjust the switch backwards and forwards in its bracket,don't turn the plunger by the slot it will fall to pieces .Take hold of the swich half turn it then by pulling or pushing which ever way you want to adjust it ,then half turn back to set it.Others have lock nuts.
