Photoshop and GIMP are fairly similar. Most tutorials can be 'translated' into GIMP instructions, just the execution would be different (macros and whatnot.) For example, if it says to make a clipping mask by going to X menu, just look for a similar/GIMP version of that menu.
On deviantart.com, a little searching and keyword refining should help you find a tutorial.
