is it possible to photoshop items completely out of the picture without leaving...

...blank spots? i have a picture of my girlfriend and i, and its an AWESOME picture, but in the foreground, there are a couple items that screw the picture up, i just want to get those items photoshopped out, but someone who is also artistic enough, or technologically savvy to make it look like they werent there, and see whats behind them. i know that sounds a bit jibberish, but i'm not quite sure how to explain what i'm looking for. is that even possible? if so, hwere could i have it done?
