There's platonic love and there's romantic love. Let's say I'm smitten with someone, but I'm not like madly in love with them. I can say I love drum and bass without flinching, and I can say that I love astronomy without feeling weird, but if I say I "love" another person it takes on a whole nother connotation.
Stupid English language and its using the same word to describe two different things. This wouldn't be an issue if English was more like Spanish. Spanish has encanta for platonic love and amo for romantic love.
