Is it possible to live your whole adult life suffering from anxiety?

Pboy,

Just to make sure i understand your question...have you been suffering from anxiety for over 20 years?

Anxiety is a treatable illness. Have you had any help with your anxiety? I highly recommend it. I became very anxious following a traumatic medical emergency (4 strokes). When my doctors finally pointed it out to me, I got medication. From the very first day, I felt great relief, and although I occasionally still get anxious, I now have it under control, instead of the other way around.

Wishing you the best.

Yes, of course. I've had anxiety since I was a kid, and it didn't just stop when I became an adult. . . and as an adult, finally got help. Medication and more recently cognitive behavorial therapy have been a big help.

Not only is it possible, but it is highly likely because once you start having anxiety attacks then you are changed forever and no amount of medication or therapy will allow you to ever truly feel normal again. You may have brief perioRAB where you feel okay, but don't expect to ever be free of it because it will always be lurking and ready to strike. Sorry for the bad news, but reality sucks for those of us with this terrible condition.

Yes, periodically ... I have some breaks, but usually go through a few 2-3 week episodes per year.

Do you know what triggers your anxiety "episodes"? Is it seasonal, or random times of the year? What effect do these several weeks of anxiety have on you?

Have you ever spoken to your doctor about this? I have had such great success with my treatment, that I always encourage folks to seek some help. Since your episodes are sporadic, they likely will respond well to treatment.

Wishing you relief

The question that pboy asked was "Is it possible to live your whole adult life suffering from anxiety?"

That's the only question he asked and the only one that should be answered.

He didn't ask for anyones opinion on the good or bad of any certain treatment, or any sort of medication, or any sort of Dr.

If he does ask for opinions on those subjects then those questions can be answered at that time.

Also, don't respond to someone else on Pboy's thread.
Answer his questions only!
This is not a place to debate each others responses, if you want to debate each others views use the PM function for that.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Work related stress seems to make things worse, but I've never discovered the root of the anxiety.

I understand what you mean...I can't say I know the root of mine neither.

I have accepted it as part of me, that came along with having several strokes and recovering as much as I have. Not accepting it is what kept me from being treated for it...I did not want it to be part of me, it didn't fit me.

The strokes brought on so many medical problems, and I tackled all of them head on, but the anxiety I could not get my head around and would not discuss it with any of my many doctors. I simply wanted nothing to do with it!

Finally it took my doctor to suggest I get help for it, and the result was amazing. Life is so much better now.

I could have easily lived the rest of my life with anxiety, if it weren't for that doctors advice.
