Yes, absolutely. Twinning is generally random and the cause is not known with certainty. The only twins with a genetic connection are fraternal twins.

If you are breastfeeding when you become pregnant, the chance of having twins is increased.

If you are older with your first pregnancy, the chance of having twins is increased.

Yes it is. I watched a show on the science channel the other day that said there's new evidence suggesting that 75% of all births began as a multiple birth, but only 25% make it past the first trimester.
 
Yes, especially if the mother is young. The younger you are, the more eggs you produce, which leads to fraternal twins. Identical twins come from one egg that has split and is not hereditary.
