Is it possible to give everyday objects that movie 3D effect, or depth perception?

Odd question, I know. But, I was wondering if the technology used to create 3D for movies could be applied to everyday objects, or the kind of depth perception one experiences with movie 3D? For example, lamp and table painted certain colors as if to make the lamp appear one could reach out and touch it although it may be several feet away. Not sure if anyone will understand what I'm trying to say, but thought I'd try! Thanks
