Is it possible to get video from a hd dvr and put on a computer to burn to dvd. more

details follow...? Ok so I am wanting to get a 60 min show off of my directtv hd dvr to burn onto a dvd. I really don't kno if it is even possible to record hd on a vcr tape and then make the tape into a dvd if so wldnt that hurt the video quailty? I really would much rather like to take and plug up my dvr to my laptop and convert the captured files over to a burnable dvd format and burn it that way. Is that possible? As I said my dvr is hd and has a hdmi connection also my laptop is hd with an hdmi connection so cldnt I just use an hdmi cable to get the video sort of like a usb cable butween a computer and printer? If not what is the best hardware and software I could buy but is also cheap? As I will only b using this once. Thanks for all your help. Also wldnt want to use a dvd recorder since that is extremely costly. Is it possible to use a desktop dvd burner and plug it into a dvr and burn it that way with no computer at all?
