Is it possible to get an iPhone to run on Verizon service instead of AT&T?

I'm planning to buy an iPhone in the future sometime after the iPhone OS 4 comes out, but I don't want my service provider to be AT&T, I want Verizon.

Is it possible to switch coverage plans for the iPhone?
