My boyfriend has a '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD with the 5.2 liter V-8 engine. Last June, the power steering pump/pulley assembly failed. He had it repaired by the mechanics at his place of employment. Ten days later, it failed again, so he had the same people work on it because it was under warranty. The service manager told him at that time that he would no longer be willing to honor any warranty on the parts. About six weeks ago the pump/pulley failed again. This time he took the car to a national chain repair shop, where the assembly was replaced again. This one failed within three days, so the assembly was replaced again, along with a new idler pulley and belt tensioner. By the time he got the car home from the shop it was leaking fluid. He went back to the repair shop, where he was told that there was probably a valve stuck in his steering box, which caused the pump to force the fluid out when pressurized. At the present time it is dripping a drop of fluid every 2-2.5 seconds while the engine isn't hot, causing my b.f. to add fluid at least every other day which is outrageous since he only drives the car about 5 miles per day. How can this problem be solved without spending a small fortune?
