is it possible to enable sound on linux-based OS on usb flash drive ?

i recently just build my new computer and the motherboard i bought has support for booting off of a usb flash drive,so i installed puppy linux,and slax on my usb flash drive ,everything worked fine,but my question is if i can enable my sound card and graphics card while i'm booting off of my usb flash drive,i got the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro and ati hd 3870x2,i installed the creative drivers while using slax on my usb flash drive and looked for my sound card but i couldn't find it,can you tell if it's possible to ebable them or if it just works with motherboards with built-in graphics card and sound card?
anyone?
