Is it possible to do game linking on Pokémon Red/Blue with a Gameboy Advance game...

...link cable? I want to play against my friend and we both have pokemon red. The only thing is that neither of us have an original gameboy pocket game cable. Do you know if it is possible to game link with the advance game cable?
