Is it possible to change SIM card from a newer Nokia to an older Nokia?

My dad got a Nokia 1110 Support as his job phone and he's about to buy a Nokia 5800 Xpress Music. Now to the question, is it possible to grab his old SIM card from his 1110 and place it in the 5800?

If your dad's new Nokia 5800 is unlocked and network free you can directly insert your old SIM to it. If the Nokia 2610 and Nokia 5800 Xpress Music are of same network, Then you can use the old SIM with it. If the Nokia 5800 is network locked, You need to unlock it before using the SIM.
