No, there's no real way to change what's already been mixed down into a single audio file. There's a program called Melodyne that allows you to edit notes within a mix, but it's rather expensive and it relies on the math of harmonics to do its work. As such it can't distinguish between the harmonics of the instrument your modifying and the harmonics of something else that happen to fit the same pattern; i.e. your editing affects both instruments instead of just the one.

But even there it doesn't allow you to replace what's there.

...in midi? I want to know if it's possible to do this. Like using soundfonts and changing the instruments in mp3's or wav's because apparently, it's nearly impossible to convert correctly mp3 or wav to midi, and I really want to edit some mp3 or wav files. I tried looking online for the ones i want, but they are nowhere in site. Or is there a program that you can use to edit mp3 or wav instruments? Which I doubt there is.
OR is it possible to extract single instruments from mp3's or wav's and then combine them togethor to form a midi?
