...service provider overseas? I am flying America next week for just under a month, and will be 'road tripping' across the country from East to West over December stopping at various places on the way. I would ideally like to take my netbook with me to allow me to email home, send updates and pictures of our adventures and stay in touch with family over the Christmas period, as well as looking up local info.
What I hope to find out is if it's possible to wait until I get to America and then purchase a pay-as you-go internet dongle from a local service provider (such as Virgin etc) to avoid the astronomical roaming costs of taking UK internet overseas.
Would this work? I can't think of a reason why not but then I'm not a tech expert - hence the call for help!
Any assistance would be great appreciated.

Many thanks!

If your netbook has wireless which it should have, just bring the netbook. There are plenty of wifi hotspots in this country. Most all motels, McDonalds, coffee shops, etc have open access to the net for free.
