Is it possible to boost my asvab score?

I want an option 40 on my Infantry contract but my asvab scores are 41, and GT 104. To get the option 40 i need a 50, and a GT 110, my recruiters got me on the M2S program but i didn't have the internet at the time to do it, so i think the doors closed on me. some friends told me after OSUT i will have a chance to boost my scores and get that option? what are they talking about? some kind of class then retake the asvab? help me out here

A GT of 110 is pretty high. You better study. Take the practice ASVAB's online and study math and the other parts relative to the GT score. You need to get your ASVAB and GT score up before you take the test.

boost your score before you sign up. it will be extremely unlikely (i.e. not gonna happen buddy) for you to get that option after you sign up. You're signing a contract with the government...so you cannot change your contract once it is signed by you.

Hello Walter.

First of all I want everybody to stop telling people to do ASVAB practice on the Internet.

If you can not invest $20 bucks on yourself to go to the book store and buy a 450 page practice for the ASVAB book then you don't deserve to enlist into the Armed Forces.

The practice book is like a RESUME. You would not apply for a civilian job without making a Resume.

Well, the ASVAB is so important for your enlistment eligibility (AFQT) and then your military job (MOS, AFSC, or Navy Rating) that to NOT invest in that book is counterproductive and works against you.

You need to get the 450 page book and work 15 pages a day to complete the book BEFORE you even step foot into ANY recruiter's office.

The book will explain all you need to know to UNDERSTAND the ASVAB and the AFQT (which measures if you are even qualified to enter the service).

If you took the 'official' ASVAB at the MEPS then that's the score you got.
If you took some Recruiter's "practice" short version... then.. you are OK.

Because you didn't "really" take the ASVAB. You took some "easy" version which will give you a false sense of accomplishment.

Again, if you have already enlisted and swore in and are shipping, then, you are stuck with the MOS you qualified for.

There are NO ASVAB classes that I know of where people/instructor teach you the ASVAB. If you can read and understand what you read then working the practice book is all you need.

Take your time. The Army will be there for an eternity. "Some friends" never know what they are talking about. After One Station Unit Training you are going to work, my friend, in that MOS you qualified for and enlisted for.

Are you another one of those who think that you can pass Ranger tryouts? Most people flunk out. It's only a "try out" to "see" if you can pass the Ranger requirements both physically and mentally.

It's like trying out for the high school basketball team or football team. If you are not any good you don't get drafted for the team.

If I had my way as Chief of Staff of the Army I would not let new recruits into Rangers or Special Forces at least for the first 2 years. Be a good soldier FIRST and prove yourself.

Then, I would screen everyone who proved that they had what it takes to be a Ranger. Then, if you made the cut you would reenlist for 6 years. That's what I would do. Be a good soldier before you dream of the glory.

But, I am not in charge.

You should have invested in buying and studying the practice ASVAB book instead of listening to people who are "friends."

You don't go up to take your driver's license exam until you have 100 or so hours practice behind the wheel - right? Well, how come you did not practice for 3 hours a day for 30 days on the ASVAB book before you went to take the ASVAB exam - as important that exam is for your Army MOS?

Best wishes,
