Is it possible that your body could get immuned to living in a new environment?

It seems like once I am on campus in college I don't have any asthma attacks or they aren't as bad as when I come back home on some weekends or breaks. I know it is because of dust mites. I am really allergic to dust mites but the thing is that before I came to college, I think my body was a little more used to the home environment and my asthma wasn't as bad. Once I got up to the college and living there, my body especially my lungs must have gotten used to the new environment and it probably doesn't have as many dust mites like my house. Then, when I came back, my asthma seems like it is worse than ever. I'm always using my inhaler at home (more than prescribed). I think my lungs just got so used to being in the college environment that it forgot how to handle the home environment and that is why I am thinking it got worse. Is this even possible? I really want to know.
