is it possible that someone can flash messages to someone on their mobile

phone without knowing their number? i was in town the other day and i heard some lads laughing at me then i got a message i could've sworn something flashed up on my mobile phone '.......diddly ace....' it dissappeared so quickly i didnt get chance to read it but when i checked there had been no messages left
i dont know if it was my imagination or my eyes plsying tricks on me
