Is it possible for a person to survive a gunshot wound to the heart?

Reason I ask is for a story in which I am writing where one of the main characters gets shot. The person doing the shooting is looking for a kill so i can't just simply have him shoot him in the leg or something like that. Has to sound believable but yet at the same time shock the readers.

What are the chances that someone could survive that type of wound?

Yeah it is possible. Very rare though. I would not attempt it even if you did survive it you could get brain issues and be in a hospital for quite a while.

It is possible but the chances of surviving it are slim. The person would have to be shot with a regular bullet - not a hollow point and a smaller caliber would be better than a large caliber. They would also have to have immediate medical attention. You can find stories about surviving gunshot wounds to the heart by doing a search on google, yahoo or bing.
