Is it possible for a guy who has been in jail to be a good guy?

I know I am bound to get people tempted to lecture me or something but I'm just curious about what other people think. I THINK that I think it's possible but I'm kind of unsure. I've been getting to know this guy for awhile now and last night he opened up more to me about some stuff and found out that he is considered a felon. I honestly wouldn't have had any clue if he didn't tell me -- and by that I mean he is well educated, funny, kind, nice... etc. I'm also a pretty good judge of character but hearing that someone has been in jail is kind of scary to me! What do you think? No rude replies, please.
 
i suppose it depends on what he went to jail for and whether he regrets what he did. if he's a child molester or something, then absolutely not; he's a predator and should have been shot in the head once he was convicted. but if he was a thief or something, then that's not nearly so bad.
