Is it okay to make hamburgers that expired yesterday?

I'm supposed to make dinner for my brother and sister and they want hamburgers. We have burgers but they expired yesterday. I don't eat meat myself and don't know what the deal is. I mean, will it hurt them? Or is it okay if it's one day expired? I was going to put it in the oven to cook it till it's well done.

but what if if says "use by"? that's an expiration date then right?

how much longer after the sell by date is the meat ok?
