Is it okay to machine wash a canvas backpack?

I have this really cute canvas backpack. It's an off-white color with some little black designs. But it's a couple years old and it's gotten dirty. Would it be okay to machine wash it, and air dry it? Would the black designs fade? There aren't any care instructions on the bag.

And it's kind of a soft canvas, made from cotton.
 
I have washed several and never had a problem.
Use a 30 degree wash or hand washing is even better. Be careful if you think the black will run into the off white.
If you love it, then see if it can be dry cleaned, which is your safest bet.
 
place the bag turned inside out in one of those mesh laundry bag or an old pillowcase and wash it cold water at a gentle cycle used for hand washing hang to dry don't put it the dryer.
