I'm exclusively breast feeding my newborn. When she was in the hospital with jaundice recently I had to give her some bottles, which caused problems with latching for a while. The nurses mentioned cup feeding but they didn't think it was necessary since she took to the bottle so well. She is latching on properly again after some hard work.
I am looking for an alternative way to feed her breast milk for the odd occasions that I'm not available to feed her. I do not want her to be fed with a bottle until she is at least a couple of months old... I have to keep going back to the doctor and I do not like bringing her to the hospital with me all the time because I don't want to risk her getting sick there if it's not necessary. I've researched cup feeding and watched some videos. It looks pretty simple. Basically you hold the baby upright and tip the cup so that the milk just touches the baby's mouth. I know that you're not supposed to pour the milk into their mouth...
Is it safe to feed her this way without getting instructions in person from a nurse?
