is it okay to by a bike at pondicherry and drive in chennai...?

Hi all,

Currently i m residing at chennai and planning to buy a new yahama fazer bike. my fnd suggested me to buy the same at pondichery as the cost difference would be some 5k to 7k compared to chennai.

So can anyone suggest me if it is legal to buy at pondicherry and drive in chennai road foreon...
