IS IT OK TO PAINT WHILE PREGNANT?

I'm 6 months pregnant with twins and I would like to paint the nursery with my husbands help. The windows will be kept opened of course. Is it dangerous for the babies if I'm around paint fumes?

I did with both pregnancies. Just make sure there is good ventilation and airflow, and if you start to feel even slightly dizzy or light-headed, stop and take a break- go in another room and relax a bit. Nows the best time too, you have more energy and it won't take your breath away reaching up and down! lol

Have fun! :)

While your doctor or other posters may say it is just fine, I say don't take the risk. Inhaling paint fumes is no different from huffing, IMHO, and you are taking an unnecessary risk. Heck, even not pregnant, I get dizzy and get nauseous from paint fumes. You KNOW that stuff is getting in your system.

I also disagree with posters who say that you should just use a mask. The masks that actually prevent inhalation of fumes are VERY expensive. You could hire someone to do the work for you for the cost of those masks.

I am having the inside of my house professionally painted right now. I asked the painter if there was any type of paint that he could buy that would be safer or something along that line. He told me to get paint with low voc in it. It doesn't have that strong paint smell, I know I was afraid that having my whole house painted that I'd have to go stay at a friends/relatives for the time being, but this has barely any smell and just open windows slightly if it bothers you. If you go to any paint store you can ask them, I went to Sherwin Williams (not sure where you are from) and asked them and they were very helpful!
