Is it ok to leave your toddler, or little one in the car by them self?

With my 1st son, I never ever left him in the car by himself, at all, he is now 8 and living with his dad. My toddler is 19 months, and today I went to the gas station, I parked right in front of the door, and I ran in and bought us each a drink. I left him in the car, but when I was in the store I was wondering if this was ok. When I got back into the car, I felt bad. I had only been in the store for a minute, but I felt guilty that I had gotten to go into the store where there was a/c, and he waited in the hot car. I also got scared when I saw a big truck park next to our car, I thought oh my what if that truck wrecked into my truck with my son in it, that would be so horrible!

Previously a few times I have thought to myself, it is ok to leave your little one/ Lo in the car by them self if you park right in front of the store, you can see your vehicle throughout the store, and your only in the store for a minute, but is it really ok?

Then I think, it might be ok during colder weather, when you can roll up the windows and lock the doors, but not in the summer heat where we live (it is 100 degrees plus here), but then you still have to worry about your Lo getting scared, and I remember being a child and hating being left in the car. The other day I left my son in our car as I ran into a different gas station, and I took my alarm switch off of the car, so I could leave the car running, leave the a/c on, lock the doors, and not get locked out myself, but when I closed the doors and tried to lock them with the alarm switch, it wouldn't lock, so that didn't work.

What is everyone's opinion on leaving Lo's in the car by them selve? Do you all think it is ok, or not? Ok during some situation's? Or none? Thanks to all, and God bless you.
