It is probably a good idea to check your body's level of mercury. High levels of mercury poisoning have been known to lead to dementia or even death. This is a case of "better safe than sorry". I completely share your sentiments. I have no clue why they continue to use such a toxic metal as a part of fillings when alternatives are available. The metal taste is probably nothing in all honesty, but if you are concerned about it your doctor will take these concerns seriously.
Just don't let what you read on the internet totally influence this. Talk to your doctor/dentist, and avoid too much of your own internet sleuthing because then you will start convincing your mind that you are experiencing things you are not (dementia/extreme exhaustion are effects of prolonged exposure to mercury...).
