Is it normal to feel weak if you don't eat every 4-5 hours?

Recently, I have found that about 4-5 hours after I eat, I start to feel weak. Then, my arms and legs feel hollow (although I don't feel that hungry in my stomach) and I begin to get lightheaded. I develop a single-minded urge to eat something, anything. When I do (usually a couple of biscuits as it's the closest thing to hand) the symptoms subside slowly until I feel normal again. If I am doing any kind of exercise, the symptoms may begin much sooner after eating.

Also, if I eat anything very sweet and sugary, I start to get jittery and sweat a lot. I am also very thirsty and drink up to twice as much as I normally would (necessitating many trips to the bathroom).

Is this normal? Obviously the answer is to eat sensible food often and always keep something to hand, but I want to know if these are symptoms of a deeper problem.
