Is it normal for adults to have the tv or radio on after children go to bed?

In a small house, are adults obligated to turn off the tv or radio after the kids go to bed if the kids complain about the sound? Assume the noise level is not excessive and has already been slightly adjusted. The children are adolescents, not toddlers.

Help my BF and I settle this disagreement. Thanks!

I think it is fine, but I always turn it down a little so you can't hear it in the other room so they can get a better sleep for the next day.

Kind of. If they're going to make the kids go to bed, especially if their reason is "because you have to get up early tomorrow," well, one of those parents has to get up early to drive them somewhere as well, so they should go to bed at the same time. The parents, in this position, could either continue watching tv if necessary, and turn on captions, and listen to the radio with headphones or something, or they could go to bed. They shouldn't be doing anything they wouldn't allow their children to do. Just saying, like my parents are just like don't do anything i wouldnt do, which basically means i can do whatever, lmao. since they're kinda like the 'cool' parents, they DO still have lives and are okay with me having one, so they really don't care if i come home drunk, just let me make my own mistakes and always be there if i need help.

If you sacrifice all of your wants for your child's comfort you will suffer and so will your parenting. If you raise your children from the time they are born to be used to a little background noise they should be used to it and should be able to sleep through it. At this age if they come out and tell you it's too loud and they can't sleep the nice thing to do would be to turn it down, but that's common courtesy for any age. So yeah it's ok.

so when your kids go to bed your life stops? I don't think so. that is your time to relax, watch the shows you want to watch etc. If it really is too loud, for example, my tv is on the wall next to my son's room, put a small fan in their room to help drown out the noise.

Yes. Why should you need to stop what your doing because they are asleep? As long as its low then there is no problem, they will get used to it and fall asleep.
