Is it necessary to hire a lawyer if you're innocent?

I feel like hiring a lawyer is a waste of money if you are innocent because they weren't there and they don't know you. It's supposed to be innocent until proven guilty so if you're innocent should you even hire a lawyer? How does that make you look better?
 
I would get a lawyer even if you are guilty these people know the laws by the back of there head. They will make you look better and you won't be token advantage of. You must also prove your inocent. This is not easy especially if a cop was there and thinks you did this, i always say it's your word against the cops use common sense who is the jury and judge going to pick. (probably the cop).

Obviously you don't know about how many innocent people go to jail.... believe it of not innocent people are found guilty all the time.

The lawyer is not there to "make you look better", he/she is there to make sure you get a fair trial and that all your rights are honored.
