Is it mean to say, "No thank you." if a boy asks you to dance (at homecoming)?

I don't really like him or the people he hangs out with. Was it wrong to say that, or was it the best thing to say?

Dancing should be fun for you so if you do not feel like it then you should not force yourself. However, in a case like this, it is in good tone to not accept invitations from other boys for this particular dance (to spare the poor guy humiliation, after all, it is not his fault that you do not find him as attractive as he finds you.)
